OTHER DISORDERS LINKED TO PFO

 

 

 

 

 

In addition to cryptogenic stroke and migraine, various studies have suggested a possible link between PFO and:

   1)  Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
   2)  Decompression illness in divers
   3)  Pulmonary embolism
   4)  Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD)
   5)  Transient global ischemia
   6)  Perioperative Hypoxemia
   7)  Dementia

However, randomized clinical trials are needed to understand any potential link between PFO closure and these conditions.
