Be Educated and Be Proactive
Ok, so you have atrial fibrillation and know that you have a higher risk for a stroke. With an LAA Occluder you can reduce that risk, but do you know how exactly it works? Today we will discuss briefly what causes strokes and how an LAA Occluder reduces your chances of having a stroke.
A stroke can have many different causes, but most commonly a stroke occurs from a blood clot or an obstruction of blood vessels taking blood to your brain. Signs and symptoms of stroke include a loss of speaking ability, loss of feeling and partial paralysis in a side of the face or half of the body as well as memory loss.
There are two many types of strokes: ischemic strokes and hemorrhagic strokes.
Ischemic strokes are by far the most common form of stroke. They occur when a blood clot blocks blood from the brain or parts of the brain.
Hemorrhagic strokes occur when a blood vessel ruptures inside the brain or on the surface. The ruptured vessel bleeds into surrounding tissue and fails to bring oxygen to designated parts of the brain.
So where does Coherex come into the picture? Coherex is developing technology that will ensure a safer left atrial appendage occlusion, reducing complications and minimizing chances for a stroke for patients with atrial fibrillation. Stay tuned and see how Coherex will make the difference.
