Treat Your Heart Right With Healthy Food
Well, it’s summertime. We’ve discussed how to make your heart healthier and ways you can promote that. With an LAA Occluder, you have already made important steps to reducing your risk of stroke. However, diet is always a powerful way to ensure that you remain healthy and reduce your risk of heart attack even more. Here is a list of four heart-healthy dishes for you to enjoy this summer.
1) Grilled Salmon-
Who likes to barbecue? Grilled salmon is a personal favorite. It is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and tastes great with a rub or marinade (teriyaki anyone?). It’s on the more expensive side, but the health benefits and flavor may be well worth it.
2) Soy Milk-
In America we are all raised to love cow milk, but few people realize what a healthy alternative soy milk really is. Soy milk is natural and contains potassium, calcium, magnesium and a variety of other vitamins and minerals important to your health. Cool off this summer with a berry smoothie made with soy milk.
Notice the fish trend here. But really, tuna is also a very healthy alternative for your heart instead of regular lunch meats. Once again, tuna is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and has fewer calories. Ease off on the mayo you mix in and you have the makings for a variety of delishious (and healthy) dishes this summer. I recommend tuna salads or making a nice sandwich.
4) Dark Chocolate-
This is where chocolate lovers can rejoice. It’s important to have a ‘treat’ once in a while, so this is our fourth healthy food option for the summer. Be sure to choose chocolate that is 70% or higher in cocoa. There are also plenty of options available with lower sugar and fat content.
