Richard J. Linder

President and Chief
Executive Officer

Mr. Linder began his career in the medical device industry with Merit Medical Systems in Salt Lake City.  Having attended Brigham Young University and the University of Utah, Mr. Linder originally worked in the organizational development department at Merit Medical.  He established and managed Merit’s global compensation and reward systems and the company’s corporate training and development program.  In 1996, Mr. Linder co-founded Rubicon Medical, Inc.  As President and CEO of Rubicon, Mr. Linder led the company through many phases. The company first began as a contract manufacturer to companies such as Medtronic, Abbott Laboratories, CR Bard, Vygon Europe, U.S. Surgical/Tyco, and others. Later, Mr. Linder acquired an RF molding and equipment manufacturing company and Rubicon began a worldwide business in equipment manufacturing, contract engineering, and design.  In 2000, Rubicon licensed to Abbott Laboratories its Guardian balloon embolic protection system. The company also completed its public offering and became a publicly traded company during that year.  Rubicon Medical was listed as one of Utah’s fastest growing public companies.  About this time, Mr. Linder developed the fundamental and key design concepts for the Rubicon Filter, which propelled the business deeper into the embolic protection market. Under Mr. Linder’s leadership, Rubicon and Boston Scientific entered into an option and equity transaction in 2003.  Boston Scientific exercised its option to complete the acquisition of Rubicon in 2005, which was the largest filter vascular protection transaction in history.

Upon leaving Boston Scientific in 2006, Mr. Linder became President and CEO of Coherex Medical.  Mr. Linder is a member of the Board of Directors of several companies, and is Chairman of the Board of Vital Access Corporation. He is a Founder and Managing Partner of Elkhorn Enterprises, a private equity fund.  He is a member of the University of Utah Biomedical Industrial Advisory Board and a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).  Mr. Linder was appointed to the board of the Governing Authority of the Utah Science, Technology and Research initiative (USTAR).  USTAR is a $430 million state-funded initiative to advance Utah’s high-technology education and economy.  Mr. Linder is a member of the Volunteer Leadership Council for the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at Brigham Young University.  Mr. Linder holds dozens of U.S. and international issued patents and pending patent applications.  He has also been recognized by “Utah Business” magazine as one of Utah’s “Forty Under 40” rising stars.  He serves in various charitable endeavors and is a member of the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America Great Salt Lake Council.
